| Beschrijving keerzijde | A highly detailed relief of a galloping thoroughbred racehorse occupies the right side of the field, rendered with fine sculptural detail in mane, musculature, and stride. To the left, a large stylised silhouette of the Ascot Gold Cup trophy dominates the centre, its dark mirror-like field contrasting with the frosted horse. The quotation 'MAY I WISH YOU ALL A MOST ENJOYABLE DAY'S RACING' is inscribed in bold lettering across the left field. The legend THE GOLD CUP ASCOT 2012 appears in italic script within the body of the trophy silhouette. |

The Ascot Gold Cup is the oldest surviving Classic horse race in Britain, run continuously at Ascot Racecourse since 1807 — with the sole interruption of the two World Wars. Cook Islands has issued a sustained series of themed commemoratives for the British luxury sporting calendar, of which this is one entry. The series trades on the royal association between the Crown and Royal Ascot, an event formally attended by the reigning monarch each June.
