Niue has issued commemorative silver under its own authority since the 1990s, licensing its name to a string of themed series with no connection to the island's economy or circulation. This "Tank" dollar belongs to a collector-market product line manufactured almost certainly by a third-party mint — most Niuean issues of this period were produced by the New Zealand Mint or B.H. Mayer's Kunstprägeanstalt in Germany — and was never intended to pass through any cash transaction on the island's 260 square kilometers of coral.
