Fiji's colored wildlife coin program expanded sharply in the late 2000s as the Reserve Bank leaned into the collectibles market — a revenue strategy that had little to do with domestic monetary policy and everything to do with international coin dealers. These pieces were never intended for circulation and were sold directly into the numismatic trade, largely through European and Asian distributors.

KM#147 is silver-plated copper-nickel, a composition tier below the program's pure silver issues, which keeps it firmly in the novelty category rather than the bullion one.
