The State of Deseret was a provisional government proposed by Brigham Young and the early Latter-day Saint settlers in 1849, covering a territory vastly larger than modern Utah — stretching into present-day California, Nevada, and Arizona. The U.S. Congress rejected it the following year, creating the Utah Territory instead and slashing its proposed boundaries. Deseret never issued its own currency during its brief existence, making every modern tribute piece a numismatic fiction rather than a reissue.
Cook Islands has produced hundreds of these licensed fantasy issues under its legal minting authority, typically through external distributors targeting collector markets rather than domestic circulation.
