| Reverse description | The reverse presents a bold left-facing bust portrait of Brigham Young, the founding governor of the proposed State of Deseret, depicted with characteristic wavy hair and a full beard, wearing a period high-collared coat. The portrait dominates the mirror-proof field and bears the engraver's initials JJ at the lower right of the truncation. The arc legend STATE of DESERET curves along the upper border, flanked on both sides by a series of raised five-pointed stars.
