Stare Hradisko was a major Celtic oppidum in Moravia, occupied roughly from the 2nd century BC through the early 1st century AD, and sat astride one of the principal overland branches of the amber route connecting the Baltic coast to the Adriatic. Archaeological excavation of the site has recovered raw amber, finished amber objects, and Roman imports in the same deposits — physical confirmation that the trading network functioned exactly as the ancient sources describe.
Niue's amber route series used the island's New Zealand-backed issuing authority purely as a vehicle for the Czech and Slovak collector market, where these themes carry genuine cultural resonance.
