Niue has operated a prolific commemorative coin program since the 1990s, licensing its issuing authority to third-party minting houses — primarily the New Zealand Mint and Pobjoy — to produce collector pieces with no meaningful circulation within the island's roughly 1,600-person population. This dollar nominally circulates as legal tender on Niue but was designed entirely for the international collector market.
St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna was heavily damaged during the Soviet and American bombardments of April 1945, with its famous medieval roof collapsing in a fire set by retreating German troops. Reconstruction took until 1952.
