Additional information

The Sichuan takin (*Budorcas taxicolor tibetana*) is a goat-antelope native to the bamboo forests of China's Qinling Mountains and was largely unknown to Western science until the late 19th century. Cook Islands leaned heavily on wildlife-themed issues throughout the 1990s, producing numerous copper-nickel dollar pieces for the collector market rather than circulation — the islands' own domestic currency needs being met through the New Zealand dollar.
