| Additional information |
The Sibir Hockey Club, based in Novosibirsk, was founded in 1962 and spent most of its existence in the middle tiers of Soviet and later Russian hockey. Its unlikely appearance on a British Virgin Islands dollar reflects the BVI's well-documented strategy of licensing culturally unrelated subjects — Soviet-era sports franchises, foreign wildlife, overseas anniversaries — to generate seigniorage revenue from collectors who will never spend the coin.
