Additional information

The Santa María was Columbus's flagship on the 1492 voyage — though she never made the return trip, having run aground off the coast of Hispaniola on Christmas Day and been deliberately dismantled to build a small fort. This Perth Mint issue is part of a broader Famous Ships series that ran through the early 2010s, targeting the bullion and collector crossover market that the Perth Mint aggressively expanded during the silver boom of that period.
