Obverse description Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara, rendered after the fourth definitive portrait by Ian Rank-Broadley, whose initials 'IRB' appear truncated below the neck. The legend 'ELIZABETH II ~ TOKELAU 2012 ~' arcs around the upper field, while the denomination 'ONE DOLLAR' is inscribed in the lower field. A decorative geometric border of traditional Tokelauan latticework motifs frames the entire field, and a depiction of the Tokelauan national emblem — a traditional canoe bowl (ipu) above a small scroll inscribed 'TOKELAU MO TE ATUA' — appears at the base of the design.
