Obverse description Rectangular flan styled in the manner of a banknote, with an elaborate engine-turned guilloche background of fine radiating lines framed by intricate acanthus-scroll ornaments at each corner and along the lateral borders. At centre, the fourth-effigy diademed and draped bust of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley faces right, set within an oval cartouche surrounded by foliate ornament. A ribbon banner above the effigy bears the legend ELIZABETH II, flanked by the date 2019 to the left and NIUE to the right. A lower ribbon scroll carries the inscriptions ONE DOLLAR, .999 FINE SILVER, and 5 GRAMS, with the engraver's initials IRB visible beneath the portrait.

Additional information

Niue's dollar coinage exists almost entirely as a licensing vehicle — the island's GDP from actual circulation is negligible, and the New Zealand dollar functions as its de facto currency. These issues are produced under agreements with private minting companies, with Niue lending its issuing authority in exchange for royalty revenue.
