Reverse description Centrally positioned, selectively gold-plated high-relief bust of Queen Nefertiti, depicted facing slightly left and wearing her characteristic flat-topped blue crown with a uraeus at the brow, modelled after the famous polychrome limestone bust in the Neues Museum, Berlin. The black nickel field surrounding the effigy is filled with rows of incuse hieroglyphic inscriptions arranged symmetrically on either side, creating a mirrored decorative backdrop evocative of ancient Egyptian monumental carving. The legend ANCIENT EGYPT arcs around the upper periphery, while QUEEN NEFERTITI is inscribed in a straight line along the lower field beneath the bust.

Additional information

The Solomon Islands has issued commemorative dollars under Elizabeth II's authority since the 1970s, but by the 2010s the program had drifted almost entirely toward novelty collector pieces with no connection to the islands' history or economy. This coin is one of those — a piece of contracted foreign mintage, almost certainly produced in a Central European facility, using the Solomon Islands' issuing authority as a licensing arrangement rather than any expression of national identity.

Nefertiti's bust, excavated from Amarna in 1912 by a German expedition, remains a point of diplomatic contention — Egypt has sought its return from Berlin's Neues Museum for decades.
