A magnificent gilt dragon, rendered in high-relief gold plating, coils around the vase from the lower left, its scaled body arching over the top of the vase and descending on the right side, where a gilt phoenix is also depicted. The background features an engraved pattern of traditional Chinese cloud and key-fret ornamental motifs against a frosted silver field, evoking the decorative vocabulary of imperial Chinese art.
