Additional information

Issued the year before the Diamond Jubilee and one year ahead of the wave of royal commemorative flooding the market in 2012, this Cook Islands dollar belongs to a long-running series of licensed memorial issues produced under authority granted to private mints targeting the collector gift market. Cook Islands has issued hundreds of such pieces since the 1970s, its name lending legal tender status to coins that will never see Rarotonga.
