Issued the year before the tenth anniversary of Diana's death in Paris, this British Virgin Islands dollar is one of dozens of commemorative pieces released by Crown dependencies and associated territories under the Pobjoy Mint and similar licensed producers throughout the 2000s. The BVI had no particular connection to Diana; the issue reflects the territory's longstanding use of commemorative coinage as a revenue mechanism rather than any local historical significance.
