Tuvalu's legal tender collector coins are struck under licensing arrangements that allow the Perth Mint to produce silver bullion and commemorative issues denominated in Tuvaluan dollars — a currency that, in practice, circulates alongside the Australian dollar and is rarely encountered in everyday commerce. The arrangement has made Tuvalu one of the more prolific issuing authorities for Perth Mint themed releases since the 1990s.
The .9999 fineness here is a step above the more common .999 silver used in most sovereign bullion coinage, a specification Perth adopted selectively for premium collector issues in this period.
