Additional information

The Royal Australian Mint has produced coloured circulating dollars through pad printing — a process borrowed from industrial parts manufacturing — since the mid-2000s, applying ink directly onto the coin face without a separate insert. This "Merry Christmas 2022" dollar is among the last issues authorised under the fourth coinage portrait of Elizabeth II used in Australia; she died in September 2022, making late-2022 dated releases transitional pieces produced after her death but carrying her effigy.
