The Kookaburra bullion series, running continuously since 1990, changes its reverse design annually — a deliberate strategy by the Perth Mint to drive collector demand alongside investment buying. This 2023 issue carries the sixth and final portrait of Elizabeth II, introduced posthumously following her death in September 2022. The portrait, by Dominique Evans, had been approved before her passing but was never used on circulating Australian coinage, making bullion issues like this one its primary appearance in the numismatic record.
