| Beschrijving voorzijde | The obverse is divided into distinct panels depicting architectural elements of St. Michael's Castle (Engineers' Castle) in St. Petersburg: the upper right panel shows a detailed relief of the castle's façade viewed from the Fontanka River, while the lower left panel displays the ornate iron gate with its characteristic Medusa-head medallion and crossed torch motifs. A period street lantern rises vertically through the centre of the composition. Paul I ruled Russia for just four years before being strangled by a group of conspirators — many of them palace guards — in March 1801. His son Alexander I almost certainly knew of the plot. This coin belongs to Niue's ongoing series of numismatic issues bearing the Niuean dollar denomination, a legal arrangement that exists primarily to provide a sovereign issuing authority for international collector coins rather than reflecting any genuine local monetary circulation.
