Obverse description Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II depicted at approximately 37 years of age, wearing a tiara, after the portrait by Arnold Machin. The legend ELIZABETH II D·G·REGINA arcs along the upper periphery in Latin script, identifying the sovereign by name and title. The truncation of the bust is clean and unadorned. The field is plain and uncluttered, allowing the portrait to serve as the dominant design element.

Reverse description Central view of the Parliamentary Library in Ottawa, a grand Gothic Revival rotunda structure, rendered in fine detail with its characteristic spired roof and arched windows. The country name CANADA appears to the left of the building and DOLLAR to the right, both set within the field. The commemorative dual date 1876-1976 is inscribed below, marking the centennial of the library's opening. The composition is framed by a plain border, with the architectural subject occupying the majority of the reverse field in a dignified and formal presentation.
