Tuvalu has issued commemorative silver dollars under licensing arrangements with various IP holders since the 1990s, and the "Ottifant" series falls squarely in that tradition — these are the cartoon elephant characters created by German comedian Otto Waalkes, who has been drawing them since the 1970s. The characters became a merchandising phenomenon in German-speaking markets, eventually crossing into animation and film.
Struck by the Perth Mint under the Tuvalu licensing framework, with .9999 fineness rather than the more common .999 silver.
