Issued as part of the RCM's NHL team loonie series, which launched in 2009 and covered all thirty franchises across multiple collector releases that year. The Ottawa Senators franchise itself has a complicated identity — the original Senators folded in 1934 under the financial pressure of the Depression, and the current club is an expansion team awarded in 1992 with no continuous organizational link to its predecessor.
