Obverse description The obverse features a highly detailed architectural design depicting a Gothic pointed arch framing the central device, evoking the interior nave arcades of Notre-Dame de Paris. Within the arch, the crowned Public Seal of Niue is prominently displayed, surrounded by a wreath and accompanied by the inscription ATUA NIUE TUKULAGI on a scroll with crossed spears below. The denomination 1 DOLLAR appears in the lower field, with the Czech Mint mintmark below it. The legend ELIZABETH II · NIUE ISLAND · 2020 is inscribed along the lower rim in a curved arrangement.

Additional information

Notre-Dame de Paris had been burning for less than fourteen months when this coin was issued — the April 2019 fire destroyed the spire and most of the roof before crews managed to save the twin towers and the rose windows. Niue's arrangement with the Polish mint operator Mennica Polska accounts for the bulk of these themed European-landmark silver issues; the island's revenue comes from the licensing agreement, not from any organic connection to the subject matter.
