Part of a themed series issued by the British Virgin Islands under license, this piece commemorates the warships associated with Horatio Nelson, whose connection to the Caribbean was substantial — he served in the region during the 1780s and used English Harbour, Antigua as a base of operations. The BVI issues of this period were produced almost exclusively for the collector market, with Royal Mint involvement in striking, and saw negligible circulation in the territory itself.
