| Obverse description | Oval flan struck in proof finish. At centre, the fourth-portrait effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley faces right, set within an ornate Fabergé-style cartouche of rocaille scrollwork and acanthus foliage in high relief. The legend NIUE ISLAND arcs along the upper rim in raised Latin characters, with the denomination 1 DOLLAR running vertically along the left field and the date 2018 along the right field. Below the portrait the name ELIZABETH II appears in the field, and the fineness mark Ag 999 is inscribed at lower right. The lower portion of the design features an intricate bas-relief composition of crossed flags and a floral basket urn, rendered in the decorative vocabulary of Imperial Russian applied arts. |
