Additional information

Issued under the Perth Mint's ongoing licensed program producing colored commemoratives for foreign and domestic themes, this piece marks the MiG-15's role in the Korean War — the first large-scale jet-versus-jet air combat in history. Soviet-built MiG-15s, flown in part by Soviet pilots operating under Chinese and North Korean cover, genuinely shocked UN air commanders when they first appeared over the Yalu River in November 1950, outperforming every Allied aircraft then in theater until the F-86 Sabre was rushed forward.
