Beschrijving keerzijde A detailed high-relief depiction of the American World War II M4 Sherman medium tank in three-quarter view, set upon a ground line within a beaded inner border. The tank is shown with its long-barrelled gun elevated, track assemblies and hull markings clearly rendered, including a Allied star emblem on the hull side. The legend M4 SHERMAN arcs across the upper field above the beaded border, and the denomination ONE DOLLAR is inscribed along the lower field below the inner border.

Aanvullende informatie

Part of the Perth Mint's ongoing military vehicle series, this issue commemorates the M4 Sherman — the workhorse medium tank of Allied forces in World War II, produced in greater numbers than any other Allied tank, with over 49,000 units manufactured across multiple American plants between 1941 and 1945. Tuvalu's role here is purely nominal; the Pacific microstate has long served as a licensing vehicle for Perth Mint collector issues, lending its currency authority to coins never intended for circulation.

The Sherman's reputation is complicated — effective in North Africa, increasingly outgunned by German armor in Northwest Europe by 1944.
