Niue has operated as a prolific bullion and collector coin issuing program since the 1970s, leveraging its status as a self-governing territory in free association with New Zealand to mint under New Zealand's monetary authority while contracting production almost entirely to foreign mints. The "Life on the Ground" series falls squarely in this tradition — thematic wildlife issues produced for the international collector market with no meaningful domestic circulation.
KM#1115 is one of dozens of Niue-issued nature series dollars from this period, most struck at the New Zealand Mint in Auckland.
