Additional information

Cook Islands has issued commemorative dollars under its currency agreement with New Zealand since the 1970s, and by 2009 the program had expanded into a sprawling catalog of gold-plated base-metal pieces aimed squarely at the collector market rather than circulation. William II of England reigned from 1087 to 1100, dying in the New Forest under circumstances that have never been fully resolved — an arrow, a hunting accident, possibly deliberate — with his younger brother Henry conveniently nearby and on his way to Winchester to seize the treasury before the body was cold.
