Reverse description Facing three-quarter portrait of King James I depicted wearing a wide-brimmed hat adorned with jewelled ornaments, with a beard and period Jacobean costume including a lace collar visible at the truncation. A fleur-de-lis device appears to the lower left of the effigy. The circular Latin legend surrounding the portrait reads JAMES I D G MAG BRIT FRAN ET HIBER REX, and the denomination $1 appears at the base. Decorative star and rosette stops punctuate the legend.
