Aanvullende informatie

Cook Islands has issued commemorative dollars under its own authority since 1972, despite having no independent central bank — New Zealand underwrites the territory's monetary arrangements, making these pieces legal tender in name while functioning entirely as collector items. This particular issue honors George V, whose reign from 1910 to 1936 encompassed both World War I and the formation of the British Commonwealth of Nations as a formal structure replacing the looser imperial framework.

Gold-plated copper at this weight and diameter was a format Cook Islands used aggressively in the 2000s, producing dozens of commemorative types annually through the Pobjoy Mint and others.
