Reverse description Three-quarter facing portrait bust of King Charles I, depicted with long flowing curled hair, a pointed beard and moustache, and a lace collar, rendered in high relief in a style reminiscent of 17th-century royal portraiture. The royal legend is inscribed in abbreviated Latin around the periphery, reading CHARLES.I:D.G:MAG:BRI:FRAN:ET.HIBER:REX, with the denomination $1 and the Pobjoy Mint mark PM appearing at the base. The design evokes the hammered coinage of the Stuart period.
