Additional information

Cook Islands has issued commemorative dollars under its own authority since 1972, a right derived from its self-governing status in free association with New Zealand. This piece belongs to a long run of licensed collectibles produced for the international commemorative market rather than domestic circulation — Cook Islands coins of this type were almost never seen on the island itself.

Charles I was executed at Whitehall on 30 January 1649, the only English monarch to be tried and publicly beheaded by his own Parliament.
