1 Dollar - Elizabeth II Japanese Bullet Train

Cook Islands has operated one of the more prolific commemorative programs in the Pacific, licensing its issuing authority to mint houses — primarily in Germany and Austria — producing themed collector pieces with no connection to Cook Islands itself. This bullet train dollar is a product of that arrangement. The Shinkansen series it depicts began revenue service in October 1964, timed deliberately to coincide with the Tokyo Olympics, as the Japanese government wanted the world to witness the infrastructure rebuild from the postwar decades.
