Reverse description The reverse features a two-toned design combining a gold-plated field with a rhodium-finished oval inset. The oval cartouche at left displays a bust portrait of Captain James Cook in 18th-century naval attire, rendered in silver-toned relief. To the right, a full-rigged sailing vessel, consistent with Cook's era of exploration, is depicted at sea. The name JAMES COOK is inscribed in the field to the right of the oval, and the denomination $1 appears in the lower field. The legend GREAT EXPLORERS OF THE PACIFIC curves along the upper rim.
