The Honda CB750, launched in 1969, is widely credited with forcing Harley-Davidson and the British manufacturers — Triumph, BSA, Norton — into a defensive posture from which several never recovered. It introduced a transverse inline-four engine to a mass market that had never seen one on a motorcycle, and its overhead camshaft design was borrowed more or less directly from Honda's racing program.
