Obverse description The obverse bears the fourth definitive effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt, depicting the sovereign bare-headed, wearing a necklace and drop earrings, facing right. The legend ELIZABETH II D•G•REGINA arcs along the upper periphery within a beaded border. The portrait presents the Queen at approximately 77 years of age, rendered in a restrained and dignified style consistent with Canadian coinage of the period.

Additional information

This piece was issued as part of the Royal Canadian Mint's direct-to-consumer gift packaging program, a revenue stream the RCM has leaned on heavily since the decline of collector set sales in the early 2010s. It was never intended for circulation and exists solely as a retail product — the three-ply brass-plated steel planchet is identical to the circulating dollar, but the finish and packaging command a significant premium over face value.
