| 背面描述 | The reverse depicts explorer Henry Kelsey standing at centre, dressed in period frontier attire and wearing snowshoes, gesturing outward as he surveys the landscape alongside two Indigenous companions. A third Indigenous figure crouches in the foreground, while a fourth is seated to the right; a herd of bison occupies the left middle ground, evoking the Canadian prairies that Kelsey traversed circa 1690. The engraver's initials appear in the lower right field. The legend CANADA DOLLAR arcs along the upper periphery, with the commemorative dates 1690 and 1990 flanking the name KELSEY in the lower exergue. |

The 1990 dollar commemorates Henry Kelsey, the Hudson's Bay Company trader who in the early 1690s became the first European recorded to have traveled the Canadian interior plains and encountered bison herds. His exact birth year remains unknown, and the journals that documented his western journeys were lost for nearly two centuries before surfacing in an Irish castle in 1926.
Two collector finishes were issued — a proof and a specimen — accounting for the dual Charlton references against a single KM number.
