This piece belongs to the Perth Mint's Australian Wildlife series, which ran through the early 2010s and was issued under the legal tender framework of the Australian dollar despite being produced for the collector market rather than circulation. The Great White Shark edition drew particular attention because Australia's southern and western coastlines — especially waters near the mint's home state of Western Australia — are among the highest-density white shark habitats on earth, giving the subject genuine regional resonance rather than the arbitrary exoticism typical of bullion wildlife programs.
Mintage was capped at 300,000 pieces across the series format.
