In the coloured central field, a scene depicts the planting of the British Union Jack flag on Australian soil in 1788, with red-coated soldiers, a bugler, and a naval officer in blue uniform, a sailing vessel visible in the background. A decorative anchor chain rendered in relief curves along the lower border of the field. The arcing legend GOVERNOR ARTHUR PHILLIP runs along the upper rim, with the date range 1788-1792 inscribed in the lower central field.
