Beschrijving keerzijde Facing busts of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, are depicted in three-quarter profile facing one another at centre, the Queen to the left wearing a pearl necklace and brooch, Prince Philip to the right in a suit. Above the couple, a gilt shield bearing the entwined script monogram EP is applied in partial gilding. The anniversary dates 1947 and 1997 flank the couple along the inner border, with the legend ELIZABETH AND PHILIP arcing across the upper field. The denomination ONE DOLLAR appears in the lower field, all within a beaded border.

Aanvullende informatie

Barbados issued this piece to mark the fiftieth wedding anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip in November 1997 — the same year the couple became the first British monarchs to reach that milestone. The partial gilding applied to silver commemoratives of this period was a technique gaining commercial traction across Commonwealth mints throughout the 1990s, used here as it was elsewhere to justify premium pricing on modest silver weights.
