Aanvullende informatie

Niue has operated as a prolific licensing hub for themed collector coinage since the 1990s, effectively leasing its sovereign issuing authority to external minting programs. This Chopin dollar is one of dozens of Polish cultural subjects struck under that arrangement, typically produced by the Mint of Poland in Warsaw — an institution with a direct national stake in commemorating the composer.

Chopin died in Paris in 1849, almost certainly of tuberculosis complicated by pericarditis, and his heart was smuggled back to Warsaw in a cognac-filled urn by his sister Ludwika — where it remains, sealed inside a pillar of the Holy Cross Church.
