| Obverse description | Circular die-struck area at centre of rectangular planchet featuring the crowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, after the portrait by Raphael David Maklouf. The legend ELIZABETH II and the date 2011 arc along the upper left, while NIUE ISLAND curves along the right. Below the portrait, in the lower field, the inscription 1/9th of 9 Dollars denotes the fractional denomination within the nine-piece set. A serial number identifying the individual piece appears on the outer packaging. |

| Reverse description | Full-colour reproduction of a fragment of the ancient Roman fresco from the Villa of Mysteries (Villa dei Misteri) near Pompeii, rendered directly on the rectangular silver surface. The scene depicts several figures engaged in what is interpreted as a Dionysiac initiation rite: a seated draped male figure reclines at right while standing and kneeling figures interact dynamically at centre and left, all set against the characteristic deep cinnabar-red background of the original fresco. The vivid polychrome coloring faithfully captures the warm ochres, umbers, and flesh tones of the Pompeian wall painting, making this the fourth panel of a nine-part series. |
