The "First Space Walk" designation here refers to Alexei Leonov's 12-minute extravehicular activity on March 18, 1965, during the Voskhod 2 mission — an achievement that nearly ended in disaster when Leonov's suit inflated so severely in the vacuum that he couldn't reenter the airlock and had to bleed air from the suit manually to squeeze back in. Cook Islands has issued commemorative dollars under licensing arrangements since the 1970s, functioning largely as a collector-market vehicle rather than circulating currency.
