| 裏面の説明 | The reverse features an oval cameo portrait of Ferdinand Magellan at centre left, depicting the bearded explorer in period dress with a flat cap, rendered in high relief against a polished field. To the right, a detailed engraving of a full-rigged galleon under sail occupies the upper field. The explorer's name FERDINAND MAGELLAN appears in two lines to the lower right of the ship. The series legend GREAT EXPLORERS OF THE PACIFIC arcs along the upper periphery, and the denomination $1 is inscribed at the bottom centre, all within a beaded border. |

Issued to mark the 2019 quincentenary lead-up programming around Magellan's 1519–1522 circumnavigation, Fiji's connection to the voyage is largely geographic — the archipelago lies along the western Pacific corridor crossed by the expedition's survivors under Elcano after Magellan himself was killed in the Philippines in April 1521. Gold-plated base metal issues of this type were produced for the collector and souvenir market, not circulation.
