| Reverse description | The reverse features a large incuse silhouette profile of Charles Darwin occupying the majority of the field, rendered as a recessed outline against the polished background. Superimposed within the silhouette is the iconic 'March of Progress' motif depicting the sequential evolution of hominids from ape to upright modern human, rendered in raised relief above the prominently struck word EVOLUTION arranged across three lines as EVO / LUT / ION in the centre of the field. The commemorative dates 1809 - 2009 appear in the lower portion of the field. The curved legend 200TH ANNIVERSARY OF DARWIN'S BIRTH arcs along the upper periphery, and a beaded inner border frames the entire design. |
