| 正面描述 | Diademed effigy of Queen Elizabeth II facing left occupies the lower left quadrant of the field, with the incuse legend ELIZABETH II and date 2011 inscribed beneath the portrait. The dominant central and upper field features a high-relief depiction of a horse-drawn wagon driven by a seated figure, evoking ancient amber trade caravans, set against a stylized map relief of Europe in the background. The upper arc bears the Polish legend SZLAK BURSZTYNOWY (Amber Route) in bold raised lettering. The denomination 1 DOLLAR and the silver fineness designation Ag 925 appear to the lower right, with the issuer name NIUE ISLAND arcing along the lower border. |

Elbląg, now a Polish city near the Baltic coast, was a key node on the ancient Amber Road — the overland and riverine trade network that moved Baltic amber south toward the Mediterranean for centuries before the Common Era. The city's medieval incarnation, founded by the Teutonic Knights in 1237, grew wealthy precisely because of its position controlling access to that same corridor. Niue's authorship here is purely nominal; these coins were produced for the collector market under a licensing arrangement common to Pacific island microstates with negligible GDP but convenient minting sovereignty.
