Obverse description Diademed effigy of Queen Elizabeth II facing left occupies the lower left quadrant of the field, with the incuse legend ELIZABETH II and date 2011 inscribed beneath the portrait. The dominant central and upper field features a high-relief depiction of a horse-drawn wagon driven by a seated figure, evoking ancient amber trade caravans, set against a stylized map relief of Europe in the background. The upper arc bears the Polish legend SZLAK BURSZTYNOWY (Amber Route) in bold raised lettering. The denomination 1 DOLLAR and the silver fineness designation Ag 925 appear to the lower right, with the issuer name NIUE ISLAND arcing along the lower border.

Reverse description The reverse features a richly detailed composition commemorating the city of Elbląg as a key station on the ancient Amber Route. At center-upper field, a large reproduction of a Roman coin bearing the facing busts of two emperors, framed by a braided laurel wreath, dominates the design. To the lower right stands a relief of an ornate Roman-style ribbed goblet or vessel. To the left, the Gothic architecture of Elbląg's historic Old Town hall and church tower is depicted in fine relief. At the lower center, a genuine polished amber cabochon is inlaid into the field as a three-dimensional insert, its deep reddish-orange hue contrasting with the mirror-finish silver surfaces. The city name ELBLĄG is inscribed in bold raised letters along the lower arc.
