Additional information

Part of a wave of novelty sovereign-mint issues that flooded the collector market in the late 2000s and early 2010s, this piece was produced under Fiji's licensing arrangement allowing foreign mints — in this case almost certainly the Mint of Poland (Mennica Polska) or a comparable central European facility — to strike themed bullion and commemorative issues bearing Fijian authority. Fiji itself had no meaningful role in the design or production decision. The padprinting technique used for surface detail was relatively new to numismatic application at this date, producing vivid color that is notoriously susceptible to wear and handling damage.
